ROSSINI Overture to William Tell
BARBER Piano Concerto
MENDELSSOHN Symphony No. 3, “Scottish”

Rossini’s William Tell Overture gallops out of the gate in this energetic concert followed by pianist Alessio Bax who returns to perform Barber’s technically demanding Piano Concerto. Mendelssohn’s boyhood trip to Scotland inspired his Symphony No. 3, “Scottish.” Esteemed conductor Edo de Waart leads us through Mendelssohn’s lilting score with its impressions of ancient palace ruins, an old bagpipe melody and lively Scottish dances.
