Classical Series Season Finale!
Ode to Joy:  Beethoven's Ninth
Michael Stern, conductor
Awadagin Pratt, piano
Kansas City Symphony Chorus, Charles Bruffy, chorus director
Caitlin Lynch, soprano
Kelley O’Connor, mezzo-soprano
Derrick Star, tenor
Peixin Chen, bass

George Frideric Handel  "Zadok the Priest," Coronation Anthem No. 1
Jessie Montgomery  Piano Concerto (Kansas City Symphony co-commission)
Ludwig van Beethoven  Symphony No. 9, "Choral"

George Frideric Handel wrote “Zadok the Priest” for the coronation of England’s King George II in 1727 and it has since been performed at every British sovereign’s coronation ceremony.

Acclaimed pianist Awadagin Pratt joins the Symphony to perform a new piano concerto by composer Jessie Montgomery. A violinist and graduate of Juilliard, Montgomery is finely attuned to larger cultural contexts and she writes marvelously incandescent music.

In a fitting season finale, Maestro Stern and the Symphony are joined by the Symphony Chorus and talented vocal soloists in Beethoven's triumphant Symphony No. 9 — his “Ode to Joy.” From its whispered beginning, the symphony leads inexorably to the culmination of Beethoven’s genius: the glorious final movement with a united powerhouse of chorus, soloists, and orchestra. The experience is unforgettable!

All sales are final. Programs, dates, artists and pricing are subject to change. The Kansas City Symphony reserves the right to adjust seating assignments when necessary.
