Matthias Pintscher, music director and conductor
Gil Shaham, violin

VARIOUS Genesis
JOHANNES BRAHMS Violin Concerto

Music Director Matthias Pintscher welcomes you to a unique concert experience pairing a grand work by Brahms with a groundbreaking world premiere.

The first chapter of the biblical book of Genesis and its account of divine creation in seven days has inspired Matthias to commission a one-of-a-kind work. He has invited seven composers, with very different musical personalities, each to contribute a piece about one of the days of creation. The seven movements will be woven together into a singular musical tapestry, encompassing all seven days and testifying to the power of the creative act, divine and human. Be the first to hear this exciting new composition!

Johannes Brahms’s monumental Violin Concerto completes the program. It was composed for the violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim, who compared it with Beethoven’s as one of the most extraordinary of all German violin concertos. Gil Shaham returns to Kansas City to perform this masterwork.
