BRAHMS VIOLIN CONCERTO, AND BEETHOVEN’S FOURTH

February 5-7, 2016

Helzberg Hall | Kauffman Center

Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony is filled with the intense drama associated with the composer as well as episodes revealing his keen sense of humor. Brahms composed his only Violin Concerto for the great Austro-Hungarian virtuoso Joseph Joachim. A virtuoso of our time, Vadim Gluzman, performs this Mount Everest of the concerto repertoire. John Adams wrote The Chairman Dances — Foxtrot for Orchestra as a separate, musical response to his opera, Nixon in China, which was inspired by Madame Mao Zedong’s prior life as a movie actress.
